The Point

Hello Fellow Authors and Devoted Followers:

You have made it. This is my proposal for the forum in which we inspire and motivate one another to keep our training up over the summer months.

Lets start by listing our personal priorities and goals.

Generally speaking, I would like to focus on handstands and running this summer. I would also like to hone my acrobatics curriculum as well as research perspectives on flexibility to be added to my curriculum in the fall.

If each of you could comment on this post with your priorities and goals by
Friday June 10, 2011 I will put together a proposed schedule for comment and discussion.

Here we go...

Joe

  1. This is a great idea, Joe. As far as my goals for the summer go, I would like to work on my upper body strength and balancing. I want to focus on handstands and things that can help in the strength and balancing of them. I want to continue work on manteling, bars, tuck-ups, timed handstands as well as balance handstands, pull ups, those things where you go from the position with your legs out in front of you to getting them up above your head, etc. etc. If you have any ideas as to how I can lay out a routine to work on for the summer (or how to alternate things so that I can focus on certain things half of the week and the other things the other half) so that I can work on these things on my own that would be great. Thanks again for putting this together for us! Oh, and I also am going to continue working on biking and hopefully the elliptical machine as well.

  2. Yahoo!
    wow yes this is great.

Personally I have been running a great deal and also following a routine of daily morning stretching, mainly in the complicated hip- inner thigh-lower back region, alongside daily (more or less) jumping jacks (50-100) and bicycling crunches (30-50 reps).

My goals this year continue to focus on creative flexibility and impulse strength - to this end I am taking a 5 day dance intensive with the Butoh-infused Inkboat company, led by Shinichi Iova Koga in Petrolia the beginning of July, called "Dance on Land".

This workshop is a part of my intention to continue developing my physical training as an expression of natural inspiration - ie running on riverside rocks, swimming, hiking, beach free-dancing etc... :)))

    thanks joe!

  3. I am a bit worried about keeping up with a regimen, as I will be doing a full time job and commuting on either end. My goal is to run every other day, do tai chi/yoga a couple of times a week, and keep working on handstands and push-ups. I'd also like to ramp up my abdominal work.

Thanks, for this, Joe! What a terrific idea.

  6. Sorry I'm late on responding to this. Great idea JoeKr!

    My goals this summer:

    1. Maintain a regular handstand regimen, so that I notice progress with balance and tuck-ups. I want to be able to maintain stamina.
    2. I'd like to assist in the DAI Intensive acrobatics classes, so that I continue to clarify my perspective as an instructor (and catch some tumbling opportunities.)
    3. Maintain my yoga and Feldencrais class schedule. (This past year I would go from consistently attending class at least 3 days per week to nothing for a month or so and then back again.)
    4. Learn some Push Hands from Tim Randles, so I can expand my Tai Chi vocabulary.

  7. From MF's email:

I'd like to increase my cardio capacity and core strengh. I would also like to practice handstands. the main prize is if i can create a daily practice routine that can withstand the assult of chaotic farm life

  10. Hi all.
Thanks for inviting us M2s to comment.

My current training regimen is about a half hour of yoga and pilates in the morning... plus a few hours of yard work most days, and biking everywhere to get around.

Here's the plan vis a vis training:
As my finances allow, add 2x weekly yoga classes, 1x weekly dance class, and 1x weekly swimming in Arcata.

2x week short handstand workout (need to make a handstand wall space).

1x week tumbling practice, focusing on front walkovers, handstand forward rolls, and back walkovers.

I will likely teach a couple intensive stilt workshops, go to contact jams, and perhaps have a performing gig or two... we'll see what turns up.

  11. hi everyone,
thanks for this, Joe! this is a great idea to force me to sit down and come up with a plan this summer.
My objective is to continue to build strength and stamina, and work on balance with headstands and handstands. I will keep up with yoga every other day, and make myself run at least once a week. I don't have a lot of space/possibility to work out outside my house here, in Moldova, but I did bring a jumping rope which I will keep up with if running proves hard to do.
